Still summer vegetables at the end of October in the shared garden of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon
“Usually it’s not so green and full. It feels like spring”Patricia is surprised as she opens the door to the shared garden on the plain of the abbey in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. The vegetable gardens are indeed still on summer time. “This is the first time that I have so many peppers at the end of October. Usually I harvest the last ones but now my plants are full. There I still have about ten just on this one.”
On his plot but also on those of his neighbors the tomatoes are still blushing. “I’m delighted to still have vegetables but at the same time I’m worried because this heat doesn’t seem normal to me. Because the tablecloths don’t recover and next year I’m afraid we’ll still have less water than this year”Patricia worries.
Michel, another gardener who has a plot in the shared garden of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, is even watering. “The land is very dry”, he observes. “This fall is not normal. For me it’s not an Indian summer. There is not even any more mistral.“Météo-France even speaks of the hottest month of October ever recorded in France.
