Zelenskyy awarded Prague with the title City-savior, the post office issued a thank-you stamp
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Prague the honorary title of City-Savior on the day of the Czech national holiday, for helping Ukrainians and Ukraine. The former Ukrainian ambassador in Prague, Jevhen Perebyjnis, who is now Ukraine’s deputy minister abroad, reported on the president’s decree on social networks. “Congratulations, Zlatá Praho, and thank you very much,” the diplomat wrote.
“For the demonstrated humanism, mercy and solidarity with the Ukrainian people, all-round assistance to the citizens of Ukraine who were forced to leave their homeland as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as for the strong support of Ukraine in the defense of its independence and sovereignty, I order to award the city of Prague (Czech Republic ) the honorary title of City-saviour,” the president’s decree states.
The Ukrainian media emphasize that Prague has been one of Kyiv’s biggest allies since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Czech aid to Ukraine is estimated at tens of billions of crowns.
In Kyiv, they also presented the postage stamp “We are together”, which is supposed to symbolize the friendship and partnership between the Czech Republic and Ukraine, the Ukrainian embassy in Prague informed.
On the national holiday, Czech President Miloš Zeman awarded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with the Order of the White Lion, as he announced in March shortly after the Russian attack on Ukraine. The reason for the award was “his bravery and courage, in which he rejected the American proposal to provide a safe haven and remained in the then-struggling Kiev.” Vitaly Usaty, chargé d’affaires of the Ukrainian embassy, took over as president.
