Returnee Knauff just missed the BVB game
The hope that Ansgar Knauff would return before the World Cup break has been fulfilled. After recovering from a thigh injury, the midfielder is back in team training. However, the forthcoming duel with his regular club Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.) is still too early for him.
“Ansgar was on the training ground for the first time today,” said Oliver Glasner, pleased about the additional option that will soon be available. For the upcoming game day, Glasner is still too risky for a BVB loan comeback. “For me, 30 minutes of team training is too short and too little preparation,” says the SBU trainer, “I’m not going to take him with me tomorrow.”
A few days later, in the Champions League game in Lisbon (Tuesday, 9:00 p.m.), things could look better with the return of the squad. Especially since Glasner can use an alternative for the winger for the further tasks of Frankfurt – at least to relieve as a joker.
Left-back Christopher Lenz is suffering from a fascial injury like Knauff before. Newcomer Luca Pellegrini, on the other hand, was not up to par in terms of fitness and rhythm. Glasner was unable to answer on Friday whether he was eligible for two games within three or four days. In any case, Knauff is an option for the left side and has already occupied the post three times this season.
