Montpellier and Toulouse: exhibition “Women, life, freedom!” in Regional Hotels from October 28
In partnership with the Occitanie Press Club, the Occitanie Region will host within the Hôtel de Région of Toulouse and on the forecourt of the Hôtel de Région of Montpellier the exhibition Woman, Life, Freedom! from Friday 28 October.
Carole Delga, President of the Occitanie Region, and Catherine Dematteis, member of the Occitanie Press Club office, will unveil at the opening 25 unpublished photos from the Reuters/SIPA Agency highlighting the struggle of Iranian women. to defend their individual freedom.
For many years, repression has intensified in Iran and left little room for individual freedoms, particularly vis-à-vis women. On September 13, Mahsa Amini, 22, was arrested by the morality police for not respecting the dress code in force. Died in detention, she became the symbol of the revolt of thousands of Iranians against the regime and the wearing of the veil. Unlike past revolts, women took the lead by going out into the streets before being joined by men. Under the banner of Mahsa and the slogan “Woman, Life, Freedom”, in Iran and on the five continents, other women and other men demonstrate and gather in front of the diplomatic representations of Iran to protest against the death of Mahsa Amini, demanding freedom, an end to gender-based violence and democracy for the Iranian people.
