The Parliament hosted the opening ceremony of the Moldova Model United Nations 2022 program. The Vice President of the Parliament Mihail Popșoi and the Deputy Eugeniu Sinchevici participated in the event.
The program is carried out by the Association for Creative Development and supported by the Ministry of Education and Research, the Swiss Cooperation Office and UNFPA Moldova. Partner of the program is UN Moldova.
The program features 60 young people who play the role of delegates from different countries and research to solve real problems with their assigned country’s policies and perspectives. They will take part in debates, individual case studies, documentaries on current topics in geopolitics, environmental protection, human rights, economy, security, society, culture, etc.
The Vice President of the Parliament Mihail Popșoi congratulated the young people for the civic spirit they show. “I wish you wonderful negotiations and experience that will inspire you in the future. Diplomacy is a useful quality no matter what career you choose. Maybe we will meet some of you in this room. Or, in the legislative forum, empathy is a horse that helps you identify the right solutions”, added the vice-president of the legislature.
Eugeniu Sinchevici, the youngest member of the 11th Legislature Parliament, also had a message of encouragement for the participants: “I think that the involvement of young people and the civic spirit are very important. This generation should organize globally to help maintain stability and peace.”
“I urge you to offer your best to this world, in order to succeed in strengthening our country. At the same time, I wish you to enjoy and capitalize on all the opportunities of this experience”, said Adriana Cazacu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research.
“The UN Population Fund, which is the UN leader in the field of youth, committed to continue supporting the Republic of Moldova to develop the civic spirit of young people and offer them various opportunities to participate through non-formal activities, but also in the environment. school”, said the Representative of the UN Population Fund, UNFPA Moldova, Dr. Nigina Abaszada, in the plenary session of the Parliament.
“Many of today’s leaders in executive, legislative, business or culture – including even at the UN – participated in Model UN as students. And you, after the conference, will become part of this Model UN family. Be proud of this”, the UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova, Simon Springett, said in the press release.
The Moldova Model United Nations 2022 program is in its third edition.
