Pirates blocked the formation of a government-style coalition in Prague, claims SPOLU — ČT24 — Czech Television
“No agreement has been reached yet. The truth is that the Pirates did not accede to, or did not join, the idea of forming a Prague coalition on the basis of the government. This was joined only by STAN who agreed. The pirates refused, de facto thereby blocking the formation of the coalition,” said MP and leader of TOGETHER in Prague Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS).
The representatives of SOLU said that they still leave the door open for the Pirates, should they change their mind about the alliance with Prague. “And that’s for a possible change of opinion of the Pirates, who might still consider whether they don’t want to participate in the government plan in Prague after all,” said chairman of the SPOLU club and negotiator Zdeněk Zajíček (ODS).
Acting mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) said that the Pirates had repeatedly told the coalition in advance that they would go to Tuesday’s meeting as representatives of the mentioned alliance.
“We are striving for the same concept that was influenced at the government level, where the national government is also composed of democratic subjects in the parliament. “Unfortunately, for reasons that are incomprehensible to me, the SPOLU coalition still rejects Prague, even though they held coalition negotiations with them,” he said. According to Hřiba, the departure of the Pirates from the alliance with Prague is now out of the question.
TOGETHER and Praha are said to have different opinions
Regarding the possibility that Praha sebe would also appear in the coalition, Svoboda stated that opinions diverge with it TOGETHER. “Her principle of understanding democracy is very different from ours,” he said. In addition, the SPOLU coalition does not want it to essentially only join the current expiring coalition of the Pirates, Prague itself and the United Forces for Prague (TOP 09, STAN and KDU-ČSL). According to Zajíček, SPOLU has more in common with Pirates than with Prague.
TOGETHER will continue to discuss the program and a possible coalition with the STAN movement. “Despite the fact that this negotiation remained blocked, we agreed with our colleagues from STAN that we will continue to negotiate together, that we are interested in agreeing on a possible coalition agreement,” said Zajíček. No binding document has been signed yet.
After this year’s municipal elections in Prague, the TOGETHER coalition won nineteen mandates in the 65-member council. The second ended with ANO with fourteen mandates. The third Pirates will have thirteen representatives. Fourth Prague has eleven mandates, five representatives will have STAN in fifth place. Sixth is the SPD movement with three mandates.
