LIVE: The Cure served two and a half hours of pure melancholy in Prague

The role of the supporting band was taken by the Scottish The Twilight Sad, who had already chosen Robert Smith himself in the past to accompany his band on tour. If we wanted to categorize the band by genre, a combination of post-punk and industrial rock would probably fit best. Long noise passages under epileptically flashing lights created a great atmosphere. The Twilight Sad were a very worthy forerunner.
RETRO: The Cure’s first performance in Moravia in 1998 as part of a bizarre festival in Brno
Medicine they entered almost inconspicuously and started the setlist slowly – with a brand new song of approximately six minutes Alone, during which a slowly receding Earth was projected behind them on the big screen until the complete demise and end of the piece. A beautiful introduction that foreshadowed the spirit of the whole concert. Followed by songs like A love song, Play for today whose The last day of summer. The songs were alternated with tasteful and thoughtful projections that corresponded with the current mood of the individual songs and completed the atmosphere. Ten minutes End song it was the sixteenth in the order and following the introduction and it was given to the Earth, here the audience could watch the approaching moon. At the same time, it was the last song of the setlist.
Perhaps the most emotional song of the entire show was heard in the first encore – Plainsong, accompanied by animations of falling white lights and soft lights slowly passing over the heads of the audience. Besides her, I Can Never Say Goodbye and A breakup.
The concert could be conceptually divided into two parts – the part before the first encore and the part after the first encore, where of course Medicine they played some of their biggest hits. Personally, I think that if it was purely up to the band, Friday I’m in love or Boys don’t cry they haven’t played for a long time (or very rarely), but on the other hand, fans like to please them and that’s why they include them in the second encore.
The two-and-a-half-hour long concert was full of melancholy and dispensed with unnecessary frills and fireworks. Medicine they’re definitely not rock dinosaurs who are only going out of inertia, but still a full-fledged band that still does well live. Only the sound could have been a little better.
