Post-covid restart of Prague Airport. His boss Jiří Pos will be the guest of the podcast
Will Prague Airport surpass the milestone of 10 million checked-in passengers this year?
The guest of the new episode of the Cesty Zdopravy.cz podcast this week will be the chairman of the board of directors of Prague Airport Jiří Pos. You can also ask him your questions.
Prague Airport celebrated its 85th anniversary this year, and it has been exactly ten years that it has been named after Václav Havel. Jiří Pos also argued for a new name. When they elected him to head the airport last summer, they returned to an office he knew well. He already managed Prague Airport in the years 2011–2014, then he was on the board of Czech Aeroholding until 2015. He then worked as the manager of the airport in Karlovy Vary. And now he has the task of returning passengers to Prague Airport.
The sole shareholder of Prague Airport is the state through the Ministry of Finance. In the past, it used the airport with great gusto as an almost inexhaustible source of hundred million dividends. But that was put an end to covid and the associated slowdown in aviation, followed by the crisis associated with Russian aggression in Ukraine. Even this year, the state will probably not receive a dividend.
In the last pre-Covid year of 2019, Prague Airport handled almost 18 million passengers, and despite the current recovery, the number of passengers handled in Prague is now only slightly above half of this record.
What is the financial condition of the airport and how has it been affected by the energy crisis? Why are all major airports struggling with operational staff shortages? What news will the flight schedule bring for next year? Which destinations attracted the most this summer? Is the expansion of Terminal 2 and plans for new commercial and office space in the airport area still current? What is the realistic time horizon when a parallel track could start to be built? And what does the aviation fuel of the future look like?
We will open not only these topics with Jiří Pos this week during the filming of the new episode of the Cesty Zdopravy.cz podcast. You can write your questions in the discussion about this article until Tuesday evening.
