This is a first in Haute-Garonne. In 2023, a municipality in the department will limit the authorized speed at 30 km/h, everywhere in its territory.
So far, in our department, several municipalities, including Toulouse, had never gradually extended the zones limited to 30 km/h, without going all the way.
Blagnac, the 4e city of the department, with more than 25,000 inhabitants, will take the plunge. “Current 2023”, according to its mayor Joseph Carls, when we circle in this city, whatever the street taken, small or large, the motorist will not be able to exceed 30 km/h, under penalty of being sanctioned.
“Lollipop traffic”
“There was a lot of speeding, behavior that was not at all correct at the wheel and dangerous for cyclists in particular. The idea is to calm traffic,” explains Pascal Boureau, municipal councilor in Blagnac.
Originally, the city’s mobility plan planned to lower the speed to 30km/hour, with the exception of five structuring axes in the city, as Toulouse can currently do.
But on October 11, 2022, Joseph Carles, at a public meeting, finally announced that the whole city will switch to the speed limit of 30 km / hour.
