Supreme Auger-Aliassime wins main trophy in European Open in Antwerp | ATP Antwerp
Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP-10) fulfilled his favorite role in the final of the European Open. American Sebastian Korda (ATP-36) never entered the match and destroyed in 2 sets: 6-3 and 6-4.
With two promising contemporaries, the audience in Antwerp received a nice poster in the final.
The 22-year-old Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime has already won 2 titles in Rotterdam and Firenze this season. For American Korda, the European Open was only his 2nd ATP final ever.
After the 1st set, Korda called his physiotherapist for help. The American had a problem with his shoulder and stretched out on the floor. A massage had to offer solace.
That 1st set was turned into a one-man show by Auger-Aliassime, who hit the net with a backhand along the line on his 1st set point. The 2nd set point was the right one.
Korda even blossomed in set 2: a streak down the line through a drop shot and a lob.
But the Canadian started to hit even harder, drank more bottles of water and cashed in his 1st of 3 match points. With Auger-Aliassime on the honors list, they can rub their hands in Antwerp.
