CzechTourism wants to get tourists from Prague to regions where they don’t go much yet
In two or three years, the Czechia may once again experience extreme overcrowding in some tourist spots, as in 2019 before the covid pandemic, which has significant restrictions on inbound tourism. CzechTourism wants to continue to use it so that tourists from abroad come to the Czech Republic even outside of the high season and to regions where they do not go much yet. Most foreign tourists head to Prague. Director of CzechTourism, Jan Herget, told ČTK at the Go and Regiontour tourism fairs in Brno.
Due to covid, this year the Czech Republic lacked tourists from Asian countries, partly also from North America and, recently, a third from Russia. This is roughly a fifth drop, two million are missing from 11 million. The reason is that either they did not get visas or there were strict covid measures in their countries that did not allow them to travel. “Due to covid, the structure of the airlines has also changed, a number of direct routes have been cancelled. We had two from Canada, from Toronto and Montreal. There were three from the USA, today one is operating seasonally. That is why we are working with the Prague airport to restore these routes. We strive to so that the most reputable tourists, that is, from Asia, the Middle East and North America, can fly directly to us,” said Herget.
CzechTourism promotes regions and lesser-known places so that Prague, where 70 percent of foreign tourists go, or Český Krumlov and Karlovy Vary are not overcrowded again. The mentioned cities do not need promotion. “If we look at Vysočina, Pardubický or Zlín region, we will find that mainly domestic tourists go there, at most from the surrounding countries,” commented Herget.
