Volleyball players from Olymp Prague go into action, the goal is the medal bars
The new UNIQA women’s volleyball extra league season starts. To see in which the players from Olymp Prague also want to be. In the very first match from 17:00, they will challenge last year’s champions from Prostějov. “We want to get to the medal position and we would like to present ourselves with a quality fighting game of risky defense,” Stanislav Mitáč, head. For an attractive duel, in which there will be four Czech national team members who were spectators at the recently concluded world championship.
After last year’s not-so-successful season, several older players left the club. But the Prague team gives space to talented and promising players who are members of the youth national teams. Everything is in agreement and in cooperation with the department center OLYMP CS MV. “We would like to finish better than last year, which was not the most successful. However, the season before we were third and in the medal positions. We want to go back there. So at least finish in the top half of the table,” said experienced coach Mitáč.
Pavlína Šimáňová will be the captain of Olymp, and Veronika Dostálová will be the libero. These are the names that also appeared at the World Cup in the Netherlands. “We have a young team that includes ferocity, risk and collective feeling. If we keep this team for two or three years, we are definitely back in the medal positions. Above all, we want to perform as well as possible,” added Mitáč, according to whom the UNIQA extraliga will be very balanced this year.
“The level is high again, there were five to seven teams that were able to beat each other. I expect that this will at least be repeated this year as well. Prostějov, Brno and then Liberec should be ahead. These teams have a number of foreign players,” predicted the coach of the traditional Prague team. He still plays in Vršovice minor, but still a legendary hall. “We have amazing facilities and a training center at Olymp, but the hall is still the same. We are still waiting for the reconstruction, we want a handsome hall with a very good spectator area and walkway. We are currently in the first stage of rebuilding the entrance for the public.”
Olymp will start the 2022/23 season in a prestigious match against another champion VK Prostějov, unusually this Friday from 7:00 a.m. in the sports hall of Olymp Prague in Vršovice.
