We should not laugh at the fact that Hungary can become the cleanest, most transparent and fairest economy in the EU
The minister responsible for acquiring new resources spoke at the 2022 Budapest Economic Forum that if it had already turned out that Hungary had such a bad image in terms of corruption and public procedures, “theforging a virtue out of necessity” show that “Hungary can also become the cleanest, most transparent and fairest country and economy in the European Union”.
But according to Navracsics, this will require a culture change:
“If we don’t believe that we can be like that, we can’t do it. As long as we arrogantly laugh at such goals and then do not follow them because we think that this does not apply to us, then we will not be able to do it.”
Tibor Navracsics took it as a sign of cooperation based on mutual trust that a these were only extended the deadline for the government’s commitments. He added that the 17 required government support for this.
Among these, he named the emergence of the Integrity Authority as the most important step, which the law is already in place, and which, according to the minister, truly independent will be able to effectively control public procurement procedures. The authority’s staff must be formed by November 4, and then the organization will start operating on November 19. He also mentioned the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Working Group. Here, 10 members are provided by the government, and 10 are chosen from among civilians. But he considers this only the beginning of the joint work, because at the beginning of the year, strategy formation and fine-tuning will still be necessary.
