Prague – Das Filmfest, a festival of German-language films, starts today in Prague. In the Lucerna cinema, it will be opened by the historical drama Close Shot. The festival will end on October 26. The Lucerna and Atlas cinemas in Prague will offer the most up-to-date films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. All films are presented with Czech and in most cases English subtitles. In a separate retrospective, starting on October 19 at the Ponrepo cinema, he commemorates one of the most prominent personalities of German film, Rainer Werner Fassbinder. From November 2 to 6, Das Filmfest will move to the Art cinema in Brno, and from November 1 to 11, it will be held in Olomouc for the first time in the Mozarteum hall of the Archdiocese Museum.
The drama Close Shot is inspired by the true story of Werner Teske, the last prisoner executed in the former GDR. The story of a student who was lured into the networks of the East German Stasi with benefits and an exclusive environment will be presented personally in Prague by its director Franziska Stünkelová. In addition to the director of the opening film, a number of other filmmakers will come to Das Filmfest to present their works, with whom translations into Czech are always produced after the screenings.
Viewers can choose from three dozen films in four thematic sections. Das Filmest Spezial traditionally offers the most up-to-date film production in German-speaking countries. Friendship, love, family ties, eternal search and fear of loss, unexpected flare-ups and difficult life trials, these are the topics of the next section The bond between us. The desire for freedom in various forms is the theme of the festival section called Freedom. Das Filmfest traditionally offers a selection of the most up-to-date documentary films from all three host countries in the Die Doku section. A detailed program is available at www.dasfilmfest.cz.
For film professionals, this year the organizers of the festival, in cooperation with the Association of Audiovisual Producers, have prepared a meeting under the title “Der kontakt. Germany-Switzerland-Austria link for Czech filmmakers. How about co-productions with German-speaking countries?”. The event is being produced on October 21 at the Goethe-Institut and will feature representatives of film offices from German-speaking countries.
