Barcelona wants to boost the use of bicycles by 2024
Barcelona is a city that has shown repeatedly that it is committed to cycling as urban transport. In their new Urban Mobility Plan (PMU), however, they have decided to go one step further and propose a package of more than 300 measures with which they will seek to increase the use of bicycles in Barcelona by 129%.
2024 is set as the date to achieve the objective and the main priority is to reduce motorized traffic within the Catalan capital. For that year, it is intended that trips by motorcycle or car do not exceed 20% of the total.
To achieve this ambitious milestone, actions will be taken to increase the use of other transport. For what the bike does, the current network of bike lanes would grow by 40% compared to the current one, in addition to including a lane with a speed of less than 30 kilometers per hour in those streets with three or more traffic lanes, a lane that also They could take advantage of the cyclists.
