Work on the final design of the Vltava Philharmonic can begin, Prague has signed a contract with architecture
Representatives of the capital city of Prague concluded a contract for the work with the Danish studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the author of the winning design of the Vltava Philharmonic. You will now have nine months to finalize the competition design into a detailed architectural study. The public can once again participate in this process, participation in the proposal will begin next week.
The future construction of the Vltava Philharmonic, a modern cultural center that will grow in Prague’s Holešovice in the next ten years, was confirmed on Tuesday, October 11, by the signing of a contract between the m Prague and architects from the renowned Danish studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The subject of the contract includes the creation of an architectural study, project documentation, performance of engineering activities, copyright supervision and all related activities.
The public will also be involved in the first stage, the finalization of the competition design into a detailed architectural study, right from the beginning of the entire process. From Monday, October 17 to Wednesday, October 26, it is possible to visit the participation container on Strossmayer Square. On Wednesday, November 2, the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) will host a meeting and discussion with representatives of the author team from the BIG studio. As part of participatory activities, interested parties will be able to participate in refining the form of public spaces and public parts of the building so that they correspond as best as possible to the needs of their future users.
The Vltava Philharmonic, which will grow to three in Prague’s Holešovice in the future, will be a modern cultural center with high-quality concert halls. Visitors will also find a creative hub here – the music department of the Municipal Library in Prague, educational and multifunctional spaces for use by schools, groups and individuals from the general public. There will also be a rooftop restaurant. The project schedule is designed so that construction can begin in 2027 and the building will be completed in 2032. Therefore, the first visitors could enter the premises of the Vltava Philharmonic in ten years.
