Russia does not recognize that its missiles flew over the Republic of Moldova
Russia does not recognize that three Russian missiles crossed the Republic of Moldova on October 10, although the violation of the airspace was confirmed by Ukraine and Romania, claims the Moldovan Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi.
The official said, in a program on Radio Moldova, that instead of acknowledging the overflight, the Russian side “takes a defensive position” and requests details from Chisinau.
“Under normal conditions, in the event of airspace violation, air defense forces go into a state of combat and measures are taken to intercept flying targets such as missiles or aircraft that violate a state’s national space. We have means of monitoring, radars, that’s why we were able to detect these targets and confirm them. As for the means of interception, in this chapter we are worse off, we do not have the capacity to react. In order to intercept an aerial target, plane or missile, another missile or a fighter plane is needed that would shoot down this target”, said Nosatîi, quoted by IPN.
According to the minister, work is currently underway to amend the legislation so that multiannual measures in the field of defense are allowed. Later, with the support of external partners, the Republic of Moldova could buy an air defense system, which is “very complicated and expensive”.
