He replaced handball, Budapest will be an important stop
It was already obvious before the European Championships that Világos is one of the biggest promises of the women’s javelin throw, as she won the event last year and this year as well. U20 World Cupin the latter final, with 63.52 meters, he set not only a personal best, but also a new European age group record.
“I didn’t think at all that I would be able to stand on the podium here,” Adriana Világos told our newspaper after the European final in Munich. – It was obvious that this was my first adult world competition, I didn’t handle the stress well at the beginning. My first two throws were terrible, but after I got into the top eight, I calmed down a bit and started to enjoy the competition.
Világos was on the podium for the first time after the fifth series, at that time still behind Szilágyi, but with her last throw, world record holder Barbora Spotáková overtook both of them. However, the girl from Vojvodina had an answer for this as well.
– It was a great honor to compete against Spotáková, whom I watched so many times on TV. I knew there would be another big throw in it, but I’m glad that I finally got the movement together – emphasized Világos to our newspaper in Munich, who used the last opportunity to beat the classic of the Czech two-time Olympic champion in the world competition, because the forty-one-year-old Spotáková announced his withdrawal after the Euro.
The career of Adriana Világos was also greatly influenced by another legend of the Czechs, the three-time Olympic champion Jan Zelezny, who has held the men’s world record (98.48 meters) since 1996.
– First I started playing handball, then my mother and I decided to try javelin throwing. We watched videos on the Internet, we compiled the throwing technique from them, but the main inspiration was Zelezny – he recalled the unusual start of Világos to SzPressz. The Vojvodina athlete’s mother has been her coach ever since, but now she is helping her daughter’s career with an official coaching document.
The next important stop for Világos, like most athletes, will be next year’s World Championships in Budapest.
