The Barrand bridge from 1983 is part of the city ring road and has never been repaired. 140,000 cars cross it daily, which makes it the busiest road in Prague.
“The Barrandovský bridge is open again. We have successfully completed the first stage of the reconstruction of the century – after 40 years of operation, the Barrandovský bridge has finally received its first proper repair,” said Scheinherr.
Reconstruction of the bridge began on May 16 this year. Originally, the work was supposed to end on September 2.
The deadline for the completion of repairs has been postponed again. Due to the forced modifications of the project, the completed repair was postponed to September 29 in the summer. A few days before the end of the deadline, the builder came with a request for a further extension of the work, namely until October 22. In the end, between the construction manager, which is the Technical Communications Administration (TSK), and the construction, the agreed completion date was for the night of today. It has not yet been decided whether and in what amount the city, through its company TSK, will apply a possible fine to the construction company Porr for the delay in repairs.

The new thing is a change in the traffic signs on the bridge. In the direction from Smíchov to Braník, the new left lane will be used only for vehicles that pass the most and will continue along the South connector, and it will not be possible to turn from this lane to Modřany. The maximum speed will be 80 kilometers per hour, which is 30 more than in the other lanes. The aim is to improve traffic on the bridge and prevent queues.
The reconstruction of the Barrandovský bridge is spread over several years and will always last only part of the year. In total, the works for the entire period will cost 594.5 million crowns.
