Prague: Public transport shelters – JCDecaux offers sale to the municipality
JCDecaux operated most of the stops in the metropolis under a 1994 contract, in exchange for payment to the city and their management and maintenance, it could run advertising spaces on them. The city no longer wants to continue in this form of cooperation. “Negotiations will be conducted with the aim of buying the existing city furniture from JCDecauxto continue in the form of cooperation with the possibility of maintaining the advertising use of the furniture for JCDecaux,” reads the approved document.
The current replacement of about 690 stops will continue as planned, and should be completed in the middle of next year. However, the city will need more shelters. “Active requests from Prague’s city districts for around 250 new bus stops are currently registered in the territory of the capital city of Prague, and up to 50 additional stops are expected for the needs of new investment events,” the document reads. In addition, it operates about 600 DPP shelters, of which 400 are of the older type suitable for replacement.
Purchase of sheds
The city can purchase an additional 325 new shelters if the contract option is exercised, but due to the economic and geopolitical situation and growth, it is possible that there will be fewer at the contract price. Therefore, according to the management of the municipality, it would be advisable to get older refurbished furniture from JCDecaux. Previously, according to the document, the company repeatedly rejected the possibility of sale, however, she has now addressed the city herself in a letter offering the possibility of “longer-term use” of her furniture. The negotiations will be led by the municipal company Technology of the City of Prague (THMP), which is in charge of changing the bus stops.
