Zurich – Young Boys 0-0. No FCZ victory, but at least a point against the leader.
Zurich remains in the league without a win for the eleventh time. In the league debut of coach Bo Henriksen against the Young Boys, the champions at least presented themselves and scored a point (0-0).
FCZ conceded ten goals in the two Europa League duels with Eindhoven in the last few weeks in England, five of them when new boss Bo Henriksen made his debut on Thursday in the Netherlands. Three days later, the Super League leaders, who have scored 24 goals in ten league games, held their own thanks to a convincing fight. And that’s not all: FCZ reads at most half a dangerous goal from the opponent over the whole 90 minutes.
Bo Henriksen can therefore book the first point as a partial success. The third league draw in a row hardly brings the champions, who have slipped to the bottom of the table, forward. Because Winterthur won 1-0 against Grasshoppers for the second time in two weeks on Saturday, FCZ are now four points behind the penultimate.
As expected, the Young Boys had much more possession of the ball, but the FCZ had at least the same good chances. Nikola Boranijasevic in particular had a goal on his foot when he was sent in deep by Ivan Santini in the 27th minute, but missed miserably in front of David von Ballmoos, who stayed on the line. In stoppage time, Von Ballmoos was on hand when Aiyegun Tosin shot from long range.
YB shot ten times and was depressed in the closing stages but only two shots found their way on target. Yanick Brecher was not seriously challenged by Fabian Rieder’s header in the first half and by Cedric Itten’s long-range shot after the break. Only once, with a long-range shot by Filip Ugrinic in the 86th minute, was there a chance of a goal.
