This year, more than a hundred drug dealers were arrested in the center of Prague
Prague criminal officers arrested over a hundred drug dealers within six months and noted an increase in dealers from Central African countries.
Criminal officers from the eleventh department of Prague I, from April to the end of September of this year, arrested almost a hundred criminals, among whom drug-related crime dominated. There were also offenses such as rioting, obstructing the execution of an official decision and reporting, violence against an official or fraud. Richard Hrdina, a spokesman for the Prague police, informed about this.
“Furthermore, criminal investigators tracked down nine people in a nationwide search and imposed over seventy fines for almost one hundred and twenty thousand crowns,” said Hrdina.
After the relaxation in April, when crowds of tourists began to flow to the center again, drug dealers who target this group of visitors have also arrived. They often pose as so-called “pushers” who lure tourists to clubs in nearby streets and offer potential customers mood-enhancing drugs as a bonus.
Criminal investigators operate in the most affected places, such as Vrchlického sady, Staré Město and Wenceslas Square, where, however, compared to before, this criminal activity has significantly decreased.
For over a year, a separate eleventh department, which was created from the original Krystal team, has been specializing in street crime, especially drug dealers in the most affected places in the center of Prague.
