Stade Rennais wins a crazy match against Lyon at Roazhon Park (3-2)
Stade Rennais does not stop. In a match with a crazy scenario, which saw the Red and Blacks concede the opener, regain the advantage, concede an avoidable equalizer and then come back in front, Bruno Genesio’s men signed a fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.
The atmosphere of Roazhon Park, incandescent, foreshadowed a great football match this Sunday afternoon for this poster of the 11th day of Ligue 1.
The duels at the start of the match, intense, launched the debates of a game with European intensity. Rennes tried their luck several times at the start of the match (12th, 14th, 16th, 20th) through Wooh, Terrier, Gouiri and Kalimuendo. But it was Lyon who opened the scoring: on a cross from Tagliafico, Lacazette deceives Mandanda with a header at the 1st post (0-1, 22nd). Rennes does not panic, and manages to equalize thanks to its duo of strong men: from afar, Benjamin Bourigeaud places a perfect cross for Terrier, who deceives Lopes with a header from 6m (1-1, 38th). The teams bring together the locker rooms with a draw.
Rennes attacks hard the second period: on a good shift, Assignon crosses strongly at the 1st post, and Gouiri deceives Lopes (2-1, 47th). The Rennais are then torn between the temptation to widen the gap or to equalize. And on a rare occasion in Lyon, Lacazette emerges in the six meters to beat Mandanda (2-2, 72nd). But the Rennais prove, once again this season, that their mental resources are great: on a cross from Truffert, Terrier scores with a header at the near post (3-2, 78th) to regain the advantage. Behind, Bruno Genesio’s men manage their lead perfectly and get the three points. They are 5th before Monaco-Clermont and PSG-Marseille.
