According to the organizers, more than 500,000 people visited the Prague Signal Festival

Prague – The Prague Signal Festival of Light and Digital Culture has been visited by more than half a million people since Thursday, according to the organizers’ estimate. This makes it the most successful year in its ten-year history, organizers said in a press release. The festival took place in the center of the capital, in Vinohrady and for the first time also in Vršovice.
In total, people could visit 15 installations at the festival, admission to most of the program was free. For those interested, the organizers have prepared two routes and an accompanying program in the Kunsthalle Prague, the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) or the Gallery U Betlémské kaple. After a four-year hiatus, the popular video mapping has returned to Náměstí Miru.
“However, we did not celebrate the tenth year of the festival alone. Cooperation with important institutions brought fresh new projects to the program. Overall, we are very satisfied. After two difficult years, we experienced a strong year, the reactions are great,” said festival director Martin Pošta. “We prepared the largest gallery zone in the history of the festival, and its attendance completely exceeded our expectations,” he added. The installation in the Kunsthalle Prague and in the CAMP center can be seen until November.
Designer Maxim Velčovský prepared an installation of abandoned and broken cars brought from war-torn Ukraine on Mariánské náměstí. The work, entitled The physical possibility of death in the mind of someone living, consists of burned-out cars imported directly from those affected by the war. They were supplemented by specific stories of people who lost not only their cars, but also often all their possessions or loved ones.
Turkish designer and artist working with artificial intelligence Refik Anadol used a machine learning algorithm to process data from a three-dimensional model of more than 4,500 kilometers of Prague streets for a large-scale projection in the CAMP center. Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech University of Technical Equipment for the installation of Forum Robotum Karlové náměstí autonomous robots with light trusses. Light installations were located, for example, in Klementin, at the churches of U Salvátor and St. Wenceslas, the basilica of St. Ludmila, in Bezručové and Heroldové orchards or at the Vršovice castle.
In cooperation with Laterna magika, the Signal Festival presented a production combining video mapping and dance in the Kateřinská garden. The choreographer and performer Miřenka Čechová directed the performance of LUNAtic, who was inspired by the work of surrealist poets, French Joyce Mansourová and Czech Jana (Honza) Krejcarová.
The eleventh year of the festival will be held from 12 to 15 October 2023. Its theme will be science, technology, art and society. According to the post office, a total of three million people visited the previous nine editions.
