A Jordanian, a member of a migrant trafficking ring from Turkey to Greece, is handcuffed
One was arrested 51 year old Jordanian who is accused of trafficking migrants from Turkey to Greece, in the context of operations of the Immigration Management Department of the Directorate of Aliens of Attica, which took place on Thursday, October 13, in the center of Athens.
A case was filed against him for accommodation facility for foreigners lacking legal documents, possession of third party travel documents, forgery, theft and acceptance, as well as disposal of proceeds of crime.
According to ELAS, the criminal ring was operating migrants from Turkey to Greece and then to other European countries. After an investigation into the actions of the 51-year-old, as a member of the ring and after targeted searches, the accused was located. As it was found, he maintained two apartments in the center of Athensthat served the criminal activity of the ring.
In particular, he was hiding in one apartment, where he also lived third party travel documentswhich he traded at prices ranging from 150 to 600 euros. The second apartment had been turned into an “informal hostel” with bunk beds, in which foreigners who operated the ring were hiding, paying an additional sum of money to the 51-year-old.
From the police investigations in the specific apartments they were found and confiscated, among others: Nine residence permits, 4 passports, 2 identity cards, counterfeit document detector, money transfer and postal receipts, medical equipment and cash. It is noted that all the seized documents are from third parties, of dubious authenticity and from different countries. As far as the medical equipment is concerned, it is specialized and professional, of great economic value, and the legality of its possession is being investigated.
They were found during the police operation last Thursday immigrants who had enter illegallyrecently, from Turkey to Greece, through Rhodes, having paid the sum of 1,000 euros for their promotion to a cooperating office of illegal transactions, with the “HAWALA” method, in Turkey.
From Rhodes, the immigrants paid an additional 500 euros each, in order to they are sent by ferry to Crete and then to Piraeus. As soon as the immigrants arrived in Athens, their traffickers took them to the center, where they met the 51-year-old. Their last hid in an apartment, until the process for their promotion to another European country has begun with the granting of the necessary travel documents.
From the further investigation and exploitation of the confiscated documents, it emerged that the arrested foreigner, through a fake identity card with false information and his photo, sent postal parcels to third countriesin which he hid forged travel documents.
After cooperation of ELAS with foreign Authorities, through its channel Europol, three parcels originating from Greece have been seized. The parcels contained fake identity cards from various countries and are believed to be used to smuggle foreigners into European countries.
The arrested person was taken to the criminal prosecutor of Athens.
