Vienna, conference “Italian Risorgimento as a European itinerary” – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
“To build an ever more solid Europe it is important to be able to start from a shared reading of history. After the April conference dedicated to De Gasperi and the June conference on Alto Adige-South Tyrol, this is the third meeting of reflection on the connection on the common history between Italy and Austria, this time also extended to France, as it should be when we are talking about the nineteenth century “. This is what the Ambassador of Italy in Vienna, Stefano Beltrame declared, opening the works of the conference “The Italian Risorgimento as a European itinerary. Europe and nations in the nineteenth century: Italy, Austria and France ”, held on 10 October at the Italian Embassy in Vienna.
Among the speakers at the conference, in addition to Gilles Pécout, Ambassador of France in Vienna, expert in Italian history and famous biographer of Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, also Andreas Gottsmann, director of the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome and curator, together with Luciano Monzali and Andrea Di Michele, of the volume “The difficult reconciliation. Italy, Austria and South Tyrol in the twentieth century ”. The event was moderated by the Ambassador of Italy to the OSCE, Stefano Baldi.
The cultural activities organized by the Embassy and the Institute of Culture in Vienna, dedicated to the analysis of historical relations with Austria in order to promote the common European identity and a shared vision of events over the centuries, thus continue successfully.
