Radomir Cholakov: In practice, GERB has no contradictions with Democratic Bulgaria on any issue
From the first day after the election, we have been saying that this country can henceforth only be governed by consensus, broad consensus, to be carried by the broad majority in parliament. This is what Radomir Cholakov from GERB-SDS said on BNT.
He emphasizes that, in practice, GERB has no contradictions with “Democratic Bulgaria” on any issue. According to him, if they have understood that the conversation between the two formations should begin, it means that they are on a good path.
Cholakov commented on the topic of judicial reform, pointing out that he is not on the same position as “Democratic Bulgaria”. However, he is categorical: “If we get into the topic of judicial reform, I think we should look to the entire expertise of the Bulgarian scientific community to suggest the right decisions.”
Cholakov also pointed out that the talks about the composition of the cabinet have not been held. According to him, the contact group’s first task is to facilitate the policy conversation. “If we start reaching an agreement on defining policies, I assure you that the composition of the Council of Ministers will finally come out by itself. At the moment, the Parliament is more important than the Council of Ministers,” he emphasized.
He specified that separate talks between contact groups on purely administrative issues are currently being held.
Radomir Cholakov also addressed the decision not to invite the Russian MP to the opening of the National Assembly. According to him, this issue should be added to the contact group in order to be carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Ministers and come out as a position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, and not as a political position of “Democratic Bulgaria”.
Regarding the proposal of the President of GERB Zelensky to speak before the National Assembly at the very first meeting, Cholakov stated that the long apology of the Ukrainian side. He recalled the case when the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, was not allowed into the hall of the National Assembly. “We owe the Ukrainian state a cruel one because of the insult it inflicted at the time, and it seems to me that a statement by President Zelensky before the National Assembly would be a wonderful gesture,” he added.
