Prague – An installation made of war-damaged cars from Ukraine, using computer-processed data from thousands of kilometers of Prague streets as well as traditional light projections on the building, will be offered by the four-day Signal Festival, which starts today in Prague. The tenth year of the event has prepared two routes and an accompanying program for those interested in the Kunsthalle Prague, the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) or the Gallery U Betlémské kaple.
“The tenth year is a celebration of creativity and art, so I am extremely happy that a number of important Prague institutions have joined us, such as the National Theatre, Kunsthalle Prague, (cultural space) Vzlet or CTU, which will celebrate the first big anniversary with us,” he said director of the Signal Festival, Martin Pošta. According to him, more than three million people have visited the festival so far.
Designer Maxim Velčovský prepared an installation of abandoned and broken cars brought from war-torn Ukraine on Mariánské náměstí. Turkish designer and artist working with artificial intelligence Refik Anadol used a machine learning algorithm to process data from a three-dimensional model of more than 4,500 kilometers of Prague streets for a large-scale projection in the CAMP center.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University will include autonomous robots with light trusses in the Forum Robotum installation on Charles Square. Light installations can be seen, for example, in Klementin, at U Salvátor and St. Wenceslas churches, the Basilica of St. Ludmila, in Bezručové and Heroldové orchards or at the Vršovice castle.
In cooperation with Laterna magika, the Signal Festival will present a production combining video mapping and dance in the Kateřinská Garden. Choreographer and performer Miřenka Čechová directed the performance of LUNAtic, who was inspired by the work of surrealist poets, French Joyce Mansourová and Czech Jana (Honza) Krejcarová.
Most of the program is free. The gallery zone includes six places, for which you need to buy a Signal Plus ticket, which can be visited repeatedly. The program is on www.signalfestival.com.
