Prague – This year’s repairs of Prague’s Barrandovský bridge will end on the night of Monday, October 17. All layers of the road have been completed, and the builders are finishing only minor works, which will be finished during the night from Monday to Tuesday. This was said to ČTK today by the mayor’s deputy Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě). Reconstruction began on May 16 this year. Originally, the work was supposed to end on September 2.
Due to the forced modifications of the project, the completed repair was postponed to September 29 in the summer. It has not yet been decided whether, and at what amount, the city, through its company Technická správa komunikací (TSK), will apply a possible fine to the construction company Porr for the delay in repairs.
“The work on the southern part of the bridge will be completed from Sunday to Monday, then there will be some finishing work on the northern part, which will be completed during the night from Monday to Tuesday. We have completed all layers of roadways and detailed work on traffic markings or drainage channels will be completed,” Scheinherr said.
The signage on the bridge will also be modified. TSK will mark a left lane in the direction from Smíchov to Braník for vehicles that pass the most and will continue along the South connector, and it will not be possible to turn from this lane to Modřany. The maximum speed will be 80 kilometers per hour, which is 30 more than in the other lanes. The aim is to improve traffic on the bridge and prevent queues.
The Barrand bridge from 1983 is part of the city ring road and has never been repaired. 140,000 cars cross it daily, which makes it the busiest road in Prague. The reconstruction of the building is spread over several years and always lasts only part of the year. In total, the works for the entire period will cost 594.5 million crowns.
Prague has had problems with the condition of bridges for a long time. In early December 2017, the footbridge between Císarský ostrov and Troy fell, injuring four people in the accident. The city completed the construction of the replacement the year before. Three weeks ago, Prague started work on the repair of the Libeň bridge, and is also preparing the reconstruction of the Hlávka bridge. For example, the Palackého bridge is also in bad condition. At the beginning of September, city representatives decided that Prague would invest 235.9 million crowns in several dozen smaller bridge structures by the end of this year.
