of the municipalities of Pas-de-Calais at the service of Pink October
With approximately 60,000 new people endured each year in France, breast cancer is the most dangerous female cancer. A little everywhere in the department of Pas-de-Calais, the municipalities are multiplying initiatives to raise awareness of screening among the population.
There are all sizes and all colors. Nearly a hundred bras currently dress the red bricks of the town hall of Nordausques. Size A, B, C or D, color yellow, blue, green or pink, it doesn’t matter, all women are invited to come and donate this underwear.
“What we want is to shock public opinion“Explains Gilles Debove, the mayor of the town, a pink scarf tied around his neck. “We all know someone who has been the victim of cancer and we know the ravages of crab in the healing process. Hence the importance of raising awareness in order to be able to diagnose the disease in time and avoid chemo and all treatments.“

Detected early, breast cancer is cured in 90% of cases! More than 3 out of 4 breast cancers are cured thanks to screening, which allows early diagnosis. But according to Gilles Debove, many women do not dare to be tested, in particular out of modesty.
He therefore decided to go even further by renaming his town.
“Until the end of October, it is no longer Nordausques but Rosedausques. It is also a good way to raise awareness. The village is located on a national road so people who cross the town see the sign Rosedausques instead of Nordausques and ask that challenges.“

This double operation is a success. City hall staff have already received nearly 200 bras since the beginning of the month. The goal is to catch them all. An approach requested by the inhabitants and which arouses the curiosity of the children: “many wonder and ask me why all these bras are hanging on the wall. This is an opportunity to do pedagogy.”
The bras will then be recycled and returned to women in need.
A pink march is planned for this Saturday and on Sunday more than 400 vintage cars will be exhibited in the town.
About twenty kilometers away, the town of Guînes is also committed to breast cancer. The association Guînes Accueil détente et Loisirs is organizing a collection of bras on 19 and 29 October. “We accept all bras, old, new, used etc. provided they are in good condition” informs the President of the association, Colette Flao.
“Breast cancer accounts for 33% of female cancer cases. »

The bras will then be donated to the northern company Abracadabra Upcycling, which refurbishes these underwear. “The company resells them as new at attractive prices and also manufactures special bras for women with breast cancer.“ continues the President.
An ecological and solidarity collection in the service of the fight against breast cancer, the most common in women. According to the National Cancer Institute, it accounts for 33% of female cancer cases.
A fight shared by the Guînes football club. This Sunday, the town team is organizing a sale of pink ribbons before their championship match. The kick-off will be given by a woman with breast cancer.
Breast cancer affects less than 1% of men, who also have a chest, although less developed. As with women, the risk of developing breast cancer in men increases with age. It is therefore important to get tested in case of symptoms such as pain or swelling of the breast.
