Karlovo náměstí turned into an open-air doctor’s office PRAGUE 2 | News
Blood pressure, birthmarks, lungs, vision, kidneys or even diabetes could be examined within one day by a visitor to the Blesk clinic on Karlov náměstí. The public space was transformed into an open-air hospital for a single day.
“I think it’s just a nice combination of the fact that instead of people going to the hospital, the hospital goes to them and opens up to them and to people who are afraid of going to the hospital or are uncomfortable with it, so we’re trying it in some form in this park and I think it works because it’s full,” said VFN director David Feltl.
“Which stalls are you going to?”
“No, just like a blood pressure test, definitely signs, because I have problems with blood pressure and then we’ll see,” said one of the visitors.
“Because of the mark, investigate, maternity,” answered another of the visitors.
“Not to have my blood pressure measured,” added the last of the passers-by interviewed.
Members of the public could get a clearer idea of their condition at several stations. The greatest interest was in examining birthmarks and measuring blood sugar levels.
“The level is assessed with this device. I’ll show you. So, I inject, clean the first drop like this, suck it up, give it to a colleague, stick it on. And in seconds it’s actually done, the examination,” general nurse Jitka Ružbatská described and showed her work.
The public was also attracted by the presentation of bare Nordic walking. These were recommended by health professionals especially to people who are overweight or have impaired coordination.
“The most important thing is to choose the right hole, because there are several club tips. Here, our hole is Nordic. They have a slightly beveled tip at the bottom, which makes them different from trekking poles, which I think people confuse a lot,” explained exercise instructor Kateřina Moravcová.
And what is the difference between them?
“The difference is that the trekking holes have such a spike at the bottom, and when you go, for example, to the mountains, it’s more or less like you’re mainly climbing,” added Moravcová.
The younger years then tried resuscitation with mannequins at the Czech Red Cross stand, and there was also a counseling session on healthy nutrition. But the essence was, of course, the examination itself. On Karlov náměstí, visitors could undergo a series of examinations free of charge without the recommendation of a general practitioner. The advantageous event was the variety of professional examinations in one place.
