Closure of building on Tussen Meer in Amsterdam
On Wednesday 12 October, the mayor’s last building with a publicly accessible facility on Tussen Meer will be closed for the purpose of restoring public order. The closure is immediately for six months and is based on the General Local Regulation (APV).
The police report showed that an explosive device went off at the property on October 10, causing enormous damage. On October 11, the building was shot at several times with a firearm. The safety of local residents and passers-by has been endangered by these incidents and the public order has been damaged. For the safety of, among other things, the camera surveillance that is already present on the building.
Leaving the building open poses a threat to public order. Because there have been two incidents in two days, the police see a risk of recurrence. The purpose of the closure of the property is to restore public order through a period of rest and avoid the risk of recurrence. Given the seriousness of these facts, the mayor has decided to close the restaurant with immediate effect for six months.
The closure of the property allowed police time to investigate the origin of the incidents. The closure is actually shorter or longer. The mayor can lift a closure if it is no longer necessary for public order. The mayor can also extend an extension if there is a high risk of recurrence.
