Among 1,799 universities in 104 countries, it is the University of Oxford in Great Britain that ranks highest, according to the ranking for The Times Higher Education. The University of Oslo best in Norway, fifth best in the Nordics.

The University of Oslo is ranked number five in the Nordics if the Times Higher Education ranking is to be believed. The best is the Karolinska institute, which overall is ranked number 49.
UiO is ranked 126th in total, and has ahead of it in the Nordics; The University of Helsinki (110), the University of Copenhagen (114) and the University of Lund (119) in addition to Karolinska. In 2021, UiO was in 119th place, the year before in place from 126-150.

China lags behind the US
The ranking of nearly 2,000 universities in over 100 countries that has been done for years by The Times Higher Education shows that Chinese universities are approaching the US’s global dominance in higher education, especially if you look at the indicator of research quality measured by citations, it is said in press release from The Times Higher Education.

She also points out that when it comes to research quality, China is making great strides.
— Over the past year, China’s average citation score has increased significantly; during the same period, the American score dropped slightly, adds Rosa.
She also points out that African universities have also made significant progress in the ranking.
