On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the American band Imagine Dragons released a new music video for the single called I Don’t Like Myself. It was filmed in the streets of Prague and is supposed to draw attention to feelings of self-hatred.
The frontman of the band Imagine Dragons, Dan Reynolds, walks through the Old Town Square and the adjacent streets in a new video clip. The filming took place at the time when this rock group visited Prague as part of their Mercury world tour. This June, she delighted her fans with two concerts at the airport in Letňany.
The frontman himself already drew fans’ attention to the newly prepared music video during the Prague concerts. According to him, he fell in love with Prague so much that he decided to shoot the video here. At the time, he estimated the release for one of the holiday months, but the listeners finally got to see it now.
A song about self-hatred was perfect for World Mental Health Day
The song called I Don’t Like Myself, translated as I Don’t Like Myself, is about the fragility of the human psyche and mental health. Therefore, the band decided to release the clip on World Mental Health Day, which fell on October 10. At the same time, she also launched a public fundraiser on Instagram to fight mental illness and offers her listeners a therapy line in collaboration with Crisistextline.
The lyrics of the song tell the story of a man who calls himself. He fights self-hatred and accepts his mistakes. In addition, his doubts are also supported by external influences and the words of others. The chorus translates as: “There are times when I don’t like myself. I believe everything that is said about me. I want to like myself, like everyone else, but there are times when I don’t like myself.”
The dark mood in the heart of Prague contrasts with sold-out concerts
The gloomy mood of the song is also supported by its new black-and-white video clip, in which the band’s frontman walks through the streets of old Prague. He is wearing a black sweatshirt and a cap. At the end, he even turns his back to the camera, puts on his hood and walks away. Cuts from sold-out concerts full of loving fans appear in complete contrast.
Dan Reynolds himself has admitted to mental health issues in the past. At the same time, however, according to his own words, he has grown out of feelings of self-hatred. He originally didn’t even want to include the song in the new album. But his bandmates provide this relatively intimate confession, and it became the eighteenth track on the band’s latest studio album, Mercury – Acts 1 & 2.
