60 percent of young people in the Netherlands will have an iPhone in 2022
By far the two smartphone brands nowadays are Apple and Samsung. This is also reflected in the market share in the Netherlands, as it turned out research from Telecom Paper. In the most recently measured target group, Apple even appears to be far, with a market share of no less than 60%.
Dutch young people choose an iPhone
The survey is part of the Telecompaper Consumer Insights Panel, in which 5000 people between the ages of 16 and 80 participate every month. The figures on smartphones from the latest research are averages for the whole of 2022. The market share of Apple’s iPhone between 18 and 24 years is an increase compared to the figures from 2018, 52% of Dutch young people had an iPhone. It should be noted that this was about the group of 12 to 20 years old.
In the latest research, Samsung scores a market share of 23% in the group between 18 and 24 years old. The remaining 17% is jointly for other brands such as Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus and Sony. In the group of Dutch people between 24 and 35 years, Apple also scores best, namely 43%. Samsung has a share of 37%. Only in the 35-55 age group is Apple overtaken by Samsung, with 32% and 46% affected. In the oldest group (55+) Apple 25% compared to 53% for Samsung.
Across the board, Apple has a market share of 36% in the Netherlands with the iPhone. That is an increase of 6 percentage points compared to the 2018 survey. Samsung has remained the same with an overall market share in the Netherlands. The rise of Apple is said to be partly the result of the disappearance of Huawei.
The investigation does not show what is the received iPhone model in the Netherlands at the moment. Usually the models a few years older are the most used in the Netherlands.
