Report: Sweden 1-1 England WU23s
Mo Marley’s team made the trip to Scandinavia after a 0-2 loss against Norway at St. George’s Park last week.
But the Young Lionesses were more than worthy of a result against the Swedes and they started on the front foot with Shannon O’Brien turning a Katie Robinson cross towards goal only for the Swedish keeper to tip it onto the bar.
It was an open game with both teams having chances, but it remained even at the break when Marley introduced Freya Gregory from the bench.
She impressed from the off, first flashing a shot over the bar after a run down the left before breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark.
When the Swedes failed to clear a ball into the box, the ball fell to the Aston Villa forward who slotted home a low shot to give England the lead.
It sparked the hosts and Emily Ramsey was forced into a brilliant save to tip a shot over the bar as Sweden looked to be level.
And they found an equalizer with just five minutes remaining when a floating ball into the area found Matilda Vinberg, who slotted past Ramsey to draw her side level.
They could have won it too, as the game ticked into stoppage time when Evenlina Duljan brilliantly created some space for a shot only to see it come back off the post.
Marley’s side will be back in action in November when they face the Netherlands at Walsall FC.
