Rhone/Alsace. Lyon loses the record for the “biggest sauerkraut in the world”
Our colleagues from Latest news from Alsace will be able to gargle for having beaten the Lyonnais, not in football (it could have, given the latest performances of OL), but in the competition for the biggest sauerkraut in the world.
A lost sauerkraut…
This Saturday, October 8, in Haguenau, the Alsatians brought this record “home”. And in order to repatriate this record to the region of origin of this emblematic dish, the Alsatians pulled out the heavy artillery: no less than 2,363.46 kilos of sauerkraut were cooked, reporter the Latest News from Alsace.
That is 863.46 kilos more than the previous “biggest sauerkraut in the world”, which was strangely held in Lyon, since 1987, thanks to the famous brasserie Georges, place Carnot.
For this gargantuan meal, the organizer of the event, La Maison Adam – Les Charcutiers d’Alsace, had seen the big picture: more than a ton of cabbage, 200 kg of potatoes, 5,000 knacks and sausages smoked, 400 kg of meat and sausages.
… a burrito found!
But what to do with so much food? Here again, everything has been thought out: this Saturday, the dish was sold in the Cora car park in Haguenau to support the “La Fabrique en Rose” association, which organizes creative workshops for women affected by breast cancer. By 11 a.m., around 2,000 punnets had already been sold.
The Lyonnais can always console themselves with this new record, obtained on September 26: the French record for the largest burrito, which reached 25 meters.
And, a year earlier, on September 25, the world record for cheese pizza had been confirmed in Lyon with an 834-cheese pizza!
