Basquiat at the Albertina Museum in Vienna, an exhibition like this had never been seen before
The escalator that descends from the Albertina Museum’s atrium is a perfect setting for a film shot. The visitor is slowly shown the photo of Basquiat, in an unforgettable shot by Andy Warhol. We are in Vienna, here the talent of the Brookyln painter is celebrated with a unique (and perhaps unrepeatable for Europe) exhibition. Until next January 8th fifty important works will fill the Viennese art space with “Basquiat: Of Symbols and Signs”. Public and private collections, tell the famous American graffiti artist. Basquiat’s works and their meaning
Basquiat’s life is inevitably intertwined with the fascination that his works evoke on. Also for this reason, in the rooms of the exhibition, the artist’s photos tell a romantic and also very detailed story of his art. Basquiat with his style of him managed to combine apparently distant languages for the time. From graffiti to canvas, with impressed (and hidden) texts among pop colors, Basquiat denounced the racism, social injustice and consumerism of his time.
