The hockey players of Amsterdam have failed to win in the main division for the fifth time in a row. The game was drawn 1-1 against Oranje-Red. The women of Amsterdam fared a lot better. They won against Pinoké 0-2.
The men of Amsterdam are having a hard time, especially on their own soil. The last home win was already booked five months ago, on April 10. The number three of last season can be found in eighth place due to the disappointing start of this season.
Start carefully
After a cautious start by both teams in the Wagener Stadium, opportunities arose in the second quarter. Orange-Red goalkeeper Pirmin Blaak had to appear red for the first time on a shot by Trent Mitton and on the other hand, goalie Joren Romijn was put to work by his own defender.
Not much later, Romijn was passed. Sheldon Schouten tapped in a cross from the right at the first post. The minie me of Oranje-Rood remained on the scoreboard for a long time, but Amsterdam came at the same last height.
A penalty corner, Amsterdam’s second in the game, failed completely. Still, the home team kept possession and Mitton scored in total. Immediately after the Amsterdam goal, Oranje-Rood received a penalty corner, but Tijmen Reyenga’s effort was saved by Romijn.
At the bottom of the ranking, Voordaan has still not taken a point. They lost 5-0 against HGC. Thanks to the big win, the Wassenaar club climbed one place in the standings.
Women in Amsterdam continue to be beaten
For the women, the match between Amsterdam, which has not yet lost any points this season, and number three Pinoké was on the program. Pinoké also had a good start to the competition. The club from Amstelveen won three times and drew two matches.
Thanks to goals from Freeke Moes and Fay van der Elst, Amsterdam gave Pinoké the first victory of the season.
In the other game on Saturday evening, SCHC recorded a crushing victory over the last-placed Little Switzerland. It was 8-0 in Bilthoven. As a result, SCHC is ahead of Amsterdam in the standings on goal difference and the Bilthoven club is the new leader in the main division.
