Brussels wants charging stations in all parking garages from 2025
The Brussels government has approved a far-reaching decree. From 2025, all parking garages in Brussels must be able to use charging stations.
the Brussels Region is slowly working on the transition to electric cars. For example, charging stations must be available in all Brussels car parks within three years. In addition, about 11,000 new charging points are to be installed by 2035, which would bring the total within the region to 22,000.
The decree applies to all private and public parking spaces with more than 10 parking spaces. They are made to an environmental permit, which can be made controlled.
Other parking spaces
The situation is slightly different for offices. They must have electric charging points within 10 percent of their garage capacity. By 2030, that figure should have doubled, according to the target of the Brussels Region.
Parking garages intended for public use will only need 5 percent of their capacity from EV charging points by 2025, which should increase to 10 percent by 2030.
Strong advance
Time will show those goals can be achieved, all the following Brussels agenda items can be used. For example, from 2035 no petrol or diesel cars will be allowed to enter the city, and sooner also a federal accord achieved for the greening of the company vehicle fleet.
Today there are about 1,972 public charging points in Brussels. In 2020 there were only 400. In addition, almost double the amount of electricity was sold this year compared to the previous year.
