Ukraine needs security guarantees not in the future, but right now
Ukraine needs a guarantee of security not in the future, but precisely now, when the country is decided.
At this time, during the debate in the European Parliament on the topic “Russia’s escalation in its aggressive war against Ukraine”, MEPs emphasized, the correspondent of Ukrinform reports.
Thus, the MP from Poland, Anna Fotyga, emphasized that, faced with defeat due to the men’s match against Ukraine, the path repeated its nuclear threats not only against Ukraine, but also against the collective West.
“I appeal to the Western media and politicians: not to play path games, repeating threats about nuclear war. What the collective West needs to do is to revise the nuclear deterrence schemes and make sure that the path and its elite are convinced that any strike against Ukraine or an ally or EU member state will be fatal for him and his country,” Fotiga emphasized, adding that there is no place for this kind of state terrorism in the modern world.
German MP Manfred Weber emphasized that “Putin is a war criminal”, but it is not money and weapons that win the war, but people who defend their freedom. He expressed his admiration for the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: “You are incredible!” – emphasized Weber.
He also urged Ukraine to be given more weapons, and France and Germany to take the initiative and help Ukraine.
“If we want the war to stop, we need action, not excuses. As before, the “Winter of Solidarity” is coming for us. Without a free Ukraine, there will be no free Europe,” Weber emphasized.
Deputy from Spain García Pérez noted that only in recent days the world has seen the mobilization in Russia, its dangerous nuclear rhetoric, sabotage on the Nord Streams, illegal decisions regarding the “annexation” of Ukrainian territories, as well as new victims of military aggression in Ukraine.
“We must provide further support to Ukraine and its population in order to put an end to this war as soon as possible, so that the way is where it belongs – before the International Tribunal in The Hague,” Perez stressed.
She also called to “isolate those European leaders who flirt with Putin,” mentioning, among other things, “Mr. Orbán’s isolated position regarding sanctions against Russia.”
Lithuanian member of the European Parliament Piatras Auštriavičius believes that the path created stopped the permanent war. “This is exactly how a terrorist state functions,” he stressed, stressing that the Russian regime has become unpredictable for the outside world, and internally demonstrates deep moral degradation of the state. He also emphasized that Western trade and economic relations with the Russian aggressor are unacceptable and must be stopped.
In these emergency situations, Austryavichus emphasized, Ukraine needs security guarantees not in the distant future, but precisely now, when the country’s fate is being decided, and when it itself is faced with solving the European security problems of its future.
He also emphasized: “We must as soon as possible gather all the advantages that make it possible to create additional formats of cooperation and partnership with Ukraine.”
The resolution based on the results of the debate will be adopted by the European Parliament on October 6.
As it happened, the next session of the European Parliament is taking place in Strasbourg on October 3-6.
