New neighborhood restaurant Day dish opens at Te Boelaarpark (Borgerhout)
With the third location of Dag Dish, Antwerp has yet another neighborhood restaurant richer. The total number now stands at seven. Daily special Boelaer opens on Thursday 6 October at Bi dishaan 262. Everyone is welcome for a cheap and tasty meal.
Zufaisa van Cooten runs the neighborhood restaurant in Nieuw Borgerhout. There is already a daily dish in Hoboken and Merksem. Why this new location? “This is a neighborhood where we were not yet present. Because you can also come here to handle food and we deliver to your home. We also work with reusable trays. Every day we have different menus. And there are different rates. That is nine euros as standard, seven euros for 60+ and three euros for people with a lower income. Their children only pay one euro.”
Quickly clear up a misunderstanding. A neighborhood restaurant is not a social restaurant for the underprivileged. “No, everyone is welcome here. For example, if you don’t feel like cooking.” Zufaisa comes over from Day dish Merksem. What are her experiences there? “It’s very popular, especially with older people. The younger generations often think it is a social restaurant. When they do come in, they are very surprised.”
withSenseDay dish is a realization of metSense, with a seat on the Mechelsesteenweg. The tailor-made company is strong in the hospitality industry with social talent and works together with the city of Antwerp for this. Hence the opening speech by alderman Tom Meeuws (Vooruit), who is also responsible for social affairs and poverty alleviation.
“What are we eating today? That question is asked every day in our home. For us, that’s a luxury problem: will it be chili con or sin carne?” said Meeuws. “But there are also people in Antwerp who hope they don’t get that question from their children. Also for those people there is now Day dish outside the walls. What a terrible word extra muros remains,’ said the ships.
Finally, I would like to mention that this Day dish is not only aimed at the Boelaarbuurt. The target audience may also come from Deurne-South and the Groenenhoek in Berchem.
