Traffic resumes after a train accident north of Toulouse
Two freight trains collided while crossing between Toulouse and Montauban on the night of Tuesday 4 to Wednesday 5 October. No casualties were reported. But a car is in equilibrium. Firefighters are considering maneuvers to move it safely.
The circulation of passenger trains is gradually resuming between Toulouse and Montauban “but major adaptations are still to be expected”, warns the SNCF at seven o’clock in the morning. Traffic was suspended for several hours after an accident between two freight trains at the Saint-Jory marshalling yard, Wednesday October 5, around 1:30 a.m.
There were no casualties in this accident. Three wagons are damaged due to friction. The two trains run well on different rails, but the cars being too wide to pass side by side, they collide. Thus pushed, a wagon found itself in an “unstable” equilibrium.
The intervention of the firefighters will take the day
This balanced wagon is empty. But he carried vinyl chloride and was not degassed after. It remains potentially explosive. However, “no leak (has been) detected on the various wagons”, assures the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sids 31). “It was secured and stabilized by the fire brigade. The next operation will consist of putting this wagon back on the rails. We thought about ideas for possible maneuvers for the release of the wagons involved. The other wagons carried liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The intervention should span a good part of the day.
