The affair caused a stir. Thursday, September 22, 2022, within the Stendhal college itself, located in the La Faourette district, in Toulouse, a Principal Education Advisor (CPE) had been beaten by several students in the establishment, before filing a complaint against X.
Stendhal college strike
The CPE of the establishment had tried to intervene between two schoolgirls who were fighting. Wanting to separate them, she had fallen to the ground, before being kicked and punched by these two girls, but also six of their comrades, who were present at the brawl.
It was the intervention of a teacher and another student who then made it possible to stop the attack.
“Unsatisfactory responses from the Rectorate”
Two weeks after the events, the educational community decided to go on strike, Thursday, October 6, 2022. “More than 50% of competent teachers to go on strike, as well as the vast majority of school staff”, indicates a Toulouse News Lionel Enjalran, math teacher at the REP+ ranked college (Priority Education Network) and elected teacher representatives to the Board of Directors.
For him, the mediocre responses by the Rectorate following this aggression are “not satisfactory”.
“We were received on Friday September 30 by the Dasen (Academic Director of the National Education Services, editor’s note) who made proposals to us but which will only have an impact at the start of the 2023 school year, such as the training of school life staff on crisis management, the creation of additional hours of activities during the lunch break, and a financial envelope within the framework of the National Council for Refoundation. We simply want the recruitment of two supervisors and an additional CPE. Because the college has gone from 320 students in 2017 to 580 today, with only one additional AED (Educational Assistant) recruited.
A renewable movement
The strike movement of Thursday, October 6, 2022 – “in which the CPE which was attacked and which has returned to work should participate”, specifies Lionel Enjalran – is renewable. A General Assembly will be held in front of the college at 2:30 p.m.
Blocking in a school and mobilization in a college, too
Two other establishments will mobilize to express their anger. From 8:30 a.m., at the Elsa Triolet elementary school, located in the Bellefontaine district, parents and teachers authorized to block the establishment due to the non-replacement of a school teacher for several weeks.
The same morning, from 8 am, it is at the Michelet college that things will change. Teachers and some parents of students protest, on the other hand, against the lack of AESH staff (Accompanying students with disabilities). “Of the 14 AESH of the college, there are currently five missing, which poses real operating problems. These staff are essential to the school and the current shortage strains the working conditions”, points out Pierre Montels, coordinator of the Snes of Haute Garonne.
Since the start of the 2022 school year, mobilizations have emerged in various establishments to protest against this lack of staff and non-replaced teachers. At the end of September 2022, parents of a kindergarten class in the Patte d’Oie district, in Toulouse, had also mobilized, their children were then waiting for a replacement for the titular teacher who had gone on maternity leave.
