The inhabitants of Slovakia more often wish Ukraine to win the war
BRATISLAVA / The GLOBSEC organization in cooperation with the FOCUS agency conducted a new survey on the attitudes of the people of Slovakia towards the war in Ukraine. As a follow-up to the survey carried out by the SAS in July 2022 as part of the survey “How are you, Slovakia?”, in which, among other things, preferences for the victory of Russia or Ukraine in the ongoing war are measured on a 10-point scale.
On 21.9. – 27.9. a representative sample of 1,009 respondents over the age of 18 asked the question: “How would you like the war in Ukraine to end?”
The survey was conducted through personal interviews.
A total of 47% of respondents want Ukraine to win, only 19% want Russia to win
A total of almost half of the respondents (47%) wish for Ukraine’s victory in the war. Only about a fifth of the population (19%) wants Russia to win, and about a third don’t care, or don’t have an opinion or don’t want to answer. A greater degree of apathy was observed among the younger generations. 33% of respondents aged 18-34, 23% of respondents aged 35-54 and 19% of respondents older than 55 answered the question “I don’t care”.
In terms of electoral preferences, the voters of the Republic party (55%) are leaning towards the victory of Russia. A stronger inclination towards Russia was also measured among the voters of the SMER-SD party (36%), where they also recorded a greater degree of peace (34% answered “I don’t care”). Among the voters of the other parties, the majority favored the victory of Ukraine.
In the case of the possibility of an agreement, the majority is in favor
A significant shift in preferences could be observed when changing the answers with several options “By agreement of the warring parties”. In this case, the majority of respondents (60%) chose an agreement. Even with such options, however, twice as many respondents chose the victory of Ukraine (27%) than Russia (10%).
