The Cardiothoracic Center of Monaco and the Order of Malta save a Guinean patient
This 25-year-old man suffered from a serious heart condition. He posted a call for help on LinkedIn, to which both organizations responded.
It is a very beautiful story which was born from the partnership between the Cardiothoracic Center of Monaco (CCM) and the Monegasque Association of the Sovereign Order of Malta. Or, more precisely and literally, a story of the heart. A few months after the renewal of the agreement which binds these two entities for three years, a 25-year-old patient, originally from Guinea Conakry in West Africa, may have suffered from a serious heart condition. This is the very first humanitarian surgery of 2022, sealing the commitment of the Center and the Association.
But let’s go back a little in time: three months ago, this same patient, D. Ibrahima Sory, appealed for help on the professional social network LinkedIn, mentioning not only his pathology, but also the impossibility to seek treatment in his country, due to the lack of suitable infrastructure and the poverty of his family, adding that he had difficulty obtaining his diploma in computer networks and in project and program management and that he had unsuccessfully contacted various international NGOs and public figures.

Finally, the management and the surgical team of the CCM, led by Dr. Armand Eker, answered this call. From the sending of the medical file to its study by the medical team, to the administrative and logistical assistance by the CCM, everything was organized very quickly to allow the patient to be taken care of surgically as soon as his arrival in the Principality.
Jointly the Sovereign Order of Malta was asked by the CCM, to co-finance with the Association of Studies and Research of the CCM, the intervention of this patient, request immediately accepted by the Sovereign Order of Malta.
Today, D. Ibrahima Sory speaks of a ” Renaissance “. He would even continue to complete his university education and create an NGO to help people with chronic diseases.
