an exhibition to preserve coral, a victim of climate change
Victim of climate change and symbol of the fragility of the seabed, coral is honored during a exhibition in toulouse October 5-7. baptized Corallum Fabricait is held at the halles de la Cité as part of the International Environmental Film Festival.
The artist behind the creations is Elise Rigot. Based in Occitania, she imagined this interdisciplinary research project combining design, engineering and marine biology to make it a 3D archive available to everyone, scientists or not. The exhibition is thus made up of around forty models of corals allowing us to understand the internal structures of these microscopic animals.

Preserve their image in the event of extinction
The corals exposed in Toulouse have been reproduced from the collections of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris and replicated researchers using advanced 3D technology combined with virtual reality. With this exhibition, the artist wishes to preserve the coral digitally for future generations and scientists, failing to succeed in saving them from climate change. A way to prolong their existence beyond their potential extinction.
Remember that coral is affected by several elements such as solar radiation, rainfall patterns, sea level movements, pollution and even macro and microplastics. the project Corallum Fabrica is carried by the Environment Axis of LAAS-CNRS as well as several partners including the Oceanological Observatory of Banyuls-sur-Mer, the Institute of Fluid Mechanics IMFT of Toulouse, the National Museum of Natural History or the Center of Island Research and Environmental Observatory.
