Its general manager affirms it: AS Monaco wants to rise to the level of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid
While AS Monaco is hosting the Chorale de Roanne this afternoon in a transformed Gaston-Médecin room, its general manager, Oleksiy Yefimov, speaks in Monaco Morning about the finances and very high ambitions of the Principality club.
With 20.7 million euros for this season, AS Monaco offers the largest budget in the history of French basketball. The Ukrainian GM insists on an important point:
“It should be remembered that the Euroleague financial fair play rule means that the club’s income must correspond to at least 50% of the budget… This means that the increase in the budget is the fact not only of the contribution of the shareholders , but also stems from an increase in sponsorship resources, miscellaneous rights and income from matches. I also want to highlight the growth of the French basket over the last 5 years, which corresponds to the strategy of the Euroleague, to make the French market (and Monaco) an important objective. »
Asked whether AS Monaco intends in the short term to be able to compete with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Oleksiy Yefimov is direct:
“Our ultimate goal is to become one of the strongholds of the European basket. Compared to the clubs you mention, yes, we want to be at their level over time. With this in mind, we are working to become one of the shareholder clubs of the Euroleague (Editor’s note: Obtaining a long-term A License). This will further develop the budget, as each shareholder club can benefit from the pool of TV rights which the associated clubs do not have access to. We have already noticed a significant positive development both sporting and commercial since playing in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. »
