Driver who wanted to drive into a police officer in Brussels released: under the influence of alcohol but “no intentions to hit”
“The Brussels police were made known to a nightclub about 06:00 this morning,” said the public prosecutor’s spokesperson. “When the police intervened, a car driver drove into a police vehicle. That vehicle then drove in the direction of a police inspector. The latter opened fire here.”
The car continued on its way, but was stopped even later, and the bullet was carried to the arm, was directed to the hospital.
The prosecutor’s office was notified and opened an investigation. A ballistics expert and the lab of the Federal Judicial Police went to the scene to determine a unilateral condition of the driver. That person does not exist in mortal danger and was interrogated during the day.
“He was released after questioning,” the prosecutor’s office continues. “The first evidence shows that he was drinking alcohol at the time and had no intention of hitting the policeman. The investigation is still ongoing, including with regard to the shooting incident.”
Due to the incident, Wetstraat was closed between Tweekerkenstraat and Handelsstraat.
