Toulouse: a major lighting brand switches to energy saving mode
Voltex has decided to turn off all the lights in its lighting stores from 7 p.m. to fight against energy waste. He uses solar lights.
Suspensions, lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces… all the lights sparkle outside, place Saint-Georges, in Toulouse, as soon as night falls, it’s over. For 15 days, the sign Voltex has decided to press on the switch “OFF” at the closing of the store to let only the light of the solar lamps flicker in the window.
“Now we turn everything off at 7 p.m. and turn everything back on at 10 a.m. Only rechargeable portable lamps are highlighted on the catwalks at night,” explains Sébastien Néri, the brand’s manager. Until then, the Voltex shops left “lamps connected, not all of them, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., thanks to programmers,” he adds.
Through this ecological approach, the brand wishes to “fight against energy waste. It’s our way of taking part in the collective effort, especially since we risk having a difficult winter. Moreover, we do it before we have to,” continues Sébastien Néri.
This will also allow him to reduce his bills, even if a hundred lights are permanently on during the day in the shop. “It’s the price to pay when you run this kind of store. All of our customers want to see the lights on, otherwise we won’t sell. An extinguished lamp, it is less beautiful, people are provided by the light”, recognizes the manager.
“We have eliminated all halogen lamps. Today we only sell LED products, which consume much less energy. Moreover, it is a piece of advice to give to people: replacing traditional bulbs with LEDs will save them significant amounts of energy,” assures Samy Jebabli, general manager of Voltex. And in terms of air conditioning, they also go into pause mode in the fall and spring.
These new rules apply in the two Voltex stores in Toulouse and the six others in France. “We will see what these small gestures will give,” concluded Samy Jebabli.
